The 10th CBW Protection Symposium
Venue: The Kistamässan
Stockholm, Sweden
June 8-11, 2010
By Marianne Olofsson
Stockholm, Sweden. Less than six months remain to the opening of the 10th International Symposium on Protection against Chemical and Biological Warfare Agents. This time we have decided to move the Symposium back to Stockholm, but into a new venue, the Kistamässan.
Stockholm, the beautiful capital of Sweden has hosted seven previous Symposia, many of them at Norra Latin. However, since the symposia have grown since the first one in 1983, a bigger venue was needed, and the Kistamässan has been selected as the perfect place for this symposium. The Kistamässan is located approximately 10 km north of Stockholm city center and is easily accessible both by subway and commuter trains. The journey takes about 15 minutes from the city centre. Arlanda airport is also within easy access.
The official opening of the event will be on Tuesday, May 8, 2010.
Scientific programme
The deadline for submitting abstracts is January 15, so there is still time to send us one. The abstracts will be reviewed by our Scientific Committee. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to send a full paper not later than April 1, 2010.
The complete list of topics as well as all other pertinent information can be found on the Symposium website www.cbwsymp.foi.se. The topics for the 10th CBW Protection Symposium will be the following:
- Emerging threats and risks
- Detection, identification and monitoring of CB agents
- CBRN Crisis Management at national and international levels
- Medical management CBRN
- Physical protection
- Non-proliferation and demilitarisation issues
- Commercial developing technologies
The scientific programme will run in two parallel sessions most of the time. Each morning and afternoon session will start with a keynote lecture, with connection to at least one of the following sessions. Among the keynote speakers we can mention Magnus Ranstorp, Scott Duncan and Robert Bull.
A poster session (with refreshments) is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, but the posters will be on display all through the Symposium.
Exhibition
The 10th Exhibition of CBW Defence Equipment grows every year, and this occasion is no exception. The area is well-filled but do not hesitate to contact cbwx@fmv.se if you would like to exhibit your products. The exhibition will open on June 8 and close on June 11. A new item is planned for Thursday afternoon - an afternoon which will give undivided attention to the Exhibition. More information will be found on the symposium website www.cbwsymp.foi.se.
Social programme
Traditionally, a get-together party will be arranged in the evening of the registration day. The get-together party is an excellent opportunity to meet old as well as new friends.
Symposium dinner at Stockholm City Hall
This symposium is the tenth one and in order to celebrate this occassion, we will arrange an exquisite symposium dinner on Tuesday, June 9, at the Stockholm City Hall, a venue that is closely connected to the Nobel Prize Banquet. Our dinner will take place in the Blue Hall, where all of the Nobel laureates had their dinner earlier in December 2009. Look for more information very soon about this spectacular planned Symposium Dinner.
Participation
The Symposium is open for people engaged within the field of chemical and biological protection, and interested in a mutual exchange of information.
Contact
The symposium has an interactive website www.cbwsymp.foi.se where you can find all the necessary information about the Symposium and the Exhibition. Questions about the Symposium can be submitted to cbwsymp@foi.se, whereas questions about the Exhibition should be submitted to cbwx.proj@fmv.se.
