Canada with its always dynamic approach to requirements across the international arena, is establishing an advanced institute to bring together the many dimensions of the problems and possibilities in defence and security issues that confront Canada and the global research community. The Canadian Defence and Security Research Institute (DSRI)ASA is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jacques Lavigne as the first Director for the Canadian Defence and Security Research Institute (DSRI). Defence Research & Development Canada (DRDC) and the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) recently created this Institute with the intent for it to become an internationally-recognized defence and security centre within both the academic and defence and security science research communities. DSRI's mission is to influence, plan and deliver research, technology, and analysis projects and build Science & Technology capabilities for maximum impact at the departmental, national, and international levels, in support of the Canadian government's defence and security priorities. In execution of its mission, the Institute will have increase capacity for the Department of National Defence, serving as its window into early-stage research. DSRI will also contribute towards building a strong strategic alliance between DRDC and RMC and will engage other academia, including allied military institutions. The linkage to external partners will be a key component of the Institute's strategy. The Institute will direct studies and programs that will broadly help position emerging science and technology. Dr Lavigne's first responsibilities will be to define the Institute's research plan and its areas of interest and to establish DSRI as an effective portal to access world class research, knowledge, science and technology within the academic community. The DSRI is located in Kingston. An Associate Director from RMC will work with Dr. Lavigne to lay the foundation for this exciting new centre for research. The DRDC, an agency of the Department of National Defence, is responsible for the scientific and technological needs of the Canadian Forces. It is comprised of seven research centres across Canada and a corporate office in Ottawa. DRDC's mandate is to ensure that Canada's needs in science and technology for defence and security, whether at home or abroad, is consistently met. DRDC strives to maximize the impact of the Department of National Defence's investment in science and technology. |
