The Journal of Medical Chemical Defense (JMCD)
Now the Journal of Medical Chemical, Biological and Radiological Defense (JMCBR)
The JMCD is continuing and we are planning the third year. We have had some difficulties with funding. The US Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) was unable to continue funding for the journal even though their interest in it was very strong. Battelle Science and Technology International has taken responsibility to keep the journal alive and to continue soliciting, coordinating reviews, and publishing the Journal on the web.
We are committed to publishing peer reviewed articles in a timely fashion. Unfortunately because of the uncertainty in funding and length of time to transfer the Journal to Battelle, we lost some of our timeliness this past year. However, we plan to expedite the review of those articles already sent to us these past months.
Dr. Margaret Filbert, Special Assistant to the Commander at USAMRICD, will remain as a strong force on our editorial board. Col. Richard Price of ASA and Dr. David Moore of Battelle will remain as the Managing Editors in charge of soliciting articles; Col Price will coordinate articles internationally and Dr. Moore will coordinate more of the articles from the US. I will assume the position as Editor. Dr. Moore will assume the role of Editor for Medical Chemical Defense articles. COL Dr. James Romano (US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, USAMRMC) will also join the Editorial Advisory Board.
We have received several requests to publish articles in medical biological defense, vaccines, phages, etc. and we will be expanding the Journal to cover those areas. Dr. David Robinson of Battelle will join us as the Editor for Medical Biological Defense articles.
We have also been asked if we can publish articles dealing with medical aspects of radiological defense, not nuclear, but more along the lines of dealing with radiological fallout. Dr. Eric Daxon of Battelle will join us as the Editor for Medical Radiological Defense.
We have changes planned, in part as a result of suggestions from several of the Editorial Board and Associated Editors. We will be putting the dates submitted, dates of completed reviews and dates of publishing on the articles. We also plan to pursue the approval by PubMed at the end of this year. In order to be included in the Medline and PubMed citations, we must have a continuous year of publication.
