Eighth International Symposium on Protection against
Chemical and Biological Warfare Agents
2-6 June, 2004, Gothenburg, Sweden
The program for the 8th CBW Protection Symposium is fixed. However, the program is still tentative since experience has told us that changes may occur right up to the start of the Symposium. 98 oral presentations have been scheduled, mostly in parallel sessions, and for the poster session on Friday 4 June, close to 100 papers have been accepted for presentation. A new feature in the program this time is the round table discussions, one per day. Every discussion starts with a couple of introductions announced in advanced. Abstracts of the introductions will be printed in the abstract book together with abstracts of the oral presentations and the poster presentations. At the on-site registration all delegates will receive the abstract book and a CD containing proceedings of the symposium.
The symposium activities start on Wednesday 2 June with registration, opening of the Exhibition of CBW Defence Equipment, and the traditional get-together party.
The Opening of the Symposium and the start of the scientific program will take place on Thursday 3 June. The 8th Symposium is opened by H.M. the King of Sweden.
In 2001 an award for remarkable efforts in the area of CBW protection and/or disarmament was established. The first recipient of the prize was Dr. Johan Santesson, among many other things the founder of the CBW Protection Symposium. The prize of 2004 will be presented by H.R.H. the Crown Princess of Sweden.
The Symposium dinner will take place on Saturday 5 June at a restaurant in the harbour of Gothenburg. The dinner (SEK 500) is not included in the participation fee. Since the number of participants is limited, people are recommended to buy tickets in advance.
The interest in the CBW Protection Symposium has been growing since the first symposium in 1983. Considering the number of registered delegates, the great number of exhibitors – per 5 April close to100 companies are represented -, and the number of announced paper presentations, the 8th symposium seems to be the biggest so far.
For detailed information about the program and the exhibition, and for registration please visit the Symposium website, www.cbwsymp.foi.se , or contact the Symposium secretariat, address CBW Protection Symposium, FOI NBC Defence, SE-90182 Umeå, Sweden, e-mail cbwsymp @foi.se, telephone +46 90 106602, fax +46 90 106801.
The Symposium is open for people engaged within the field of chemical and biological protection and interested in a mutual exchange of information. The fee for participation in the Symposium is SEK 5000 (approx. € 550 /$ 660). VAT (25% when applicable) is not included in the fee.
