New center addresses homeland defense
The Rocky Mountain Center for Homeland Defense

Denver, Colorado U.S. The University of Denver has established the Rocky Mountain Center for Homeland Defense as part of its efforts to maintain an active role in the community and contribute to the security of Colorado and the western U.S. The center is the brainchild of Dr. Andrew Ternay, Professor of Chemistry at DU. Dr. Ternay has long worked in the area of defense against weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) for WRAIR and most recently for the USAMRICD. Dr. Ternay persuaded University officials that DU should be the University for Denver, not the University of Denver, and that faculty and staff at the university had unique qualifications and experiences to bring to bear on the issue of homeland defense and security. Dr. Murray Hamilton, whose expertise is in medical countermeasures to WMDs, will direct the Center. Hamilton joins DU from the Defence Research and Development Canada-Suffield (DRDC-Suffield), the primary Canadian center for defense research into countermeasures to WMDs.
