Description

The 311th Human Systems Wing, Human Systems Program Office, Brooks AFB, TX is seeking qualified sources to design and produce the Second Skin for the MCU-2A/P Mask. The MCU-2A/P is the primary Chemical Biological Protective Mask used by the Air Force and the Navy's ground troops. The MCU-2A/P is a single lens variant of the M-40 Mask currently used by the Army and Marine. The MCU series mask consists of silicon face blank and nose cup, side mounted C2/C2A1 canister, six point head hardness, front and side voicemitters, drinking tube and built-in microphone pass-through. The Second skin is a molded covering that fits over the face blank of the mask providing additional chemical protection. Second skin shall also interface with the JSLIST (chemical protective garment) integral hood. Since the second skin might come in contact with human skin, the formulation must be tested and certified for the absence of toxicity and approved for human use through an approved testing facility. A three to five-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity requirement is being considered. The first year of the contract will be for tooling fabrication and first article delivery. The second and third year will be full production. Approximately 200,000 skins will be required the second year and 800,000 skins the third year. The requirement for the fourth and fifth year is unknown at this time. THIS SYNOPSIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. It is a market research tool being utilized to determine the availability of potential commercial sources and interested contractors before determining the method of acquisition.
